Sherlock Holmes

Sherlock is a very recent series from the BBC which relates the adventures of the famous detective, Sherlock Holmes, and his friend, Dr. Watson. But this is not a series like others about Sherlock, because it takes place in the 21th century, so this is a modern Sherlock. Sherlock Holmes has a very special job: he is a consultant detective, so people go to him to solve their problems. He has a brother, Mycroft, who works in the secret service. His principal assistant is Dr. Waston, his only friend , a former army doctor. Sherlock lives in 221 Baker Street, with Mrs. Hudson, his governess. And his best ennemy is Jim Moriarty, who has a job similar to Sherlock's: consultant criminal.

For the moment, there are two seasons, which contain 6 episodes, in French or in English. But it is silly to watch this series in French. All the episodes are very good, and I have no particular favorite. Sherlock is a very interesting character, but it is disappointing that the people who made this series don't represent the character in all his aspects (the addiction to opium for example ).

In conclusion, I think that this is a fantastic series, very funny, and which represents Sherlock Holmes with novelty, so watch it!

The Eighth Day is a French film directed by Jaco Van Dormael in 1995. It's played by Daniel Auteuil and Pascal Duquenne. Harry is a lonely man who only thinks about his job. He forgets his children and the pleasures of life. He has nobody, no friends, no family. But one day, he discovers Georges a person with Down's Syndrome. He's the opposite of Harry, he makes the most of the present moment but he is rejected because he is “different”. And, he is lonely, without family and friends too. And, their meeting will change their lives. This film is very moving and we focus on the relationship between these characters, true friendship which help them to see the rosy side of life, and to feel better thanks to friends because they need each other. Moreover, some scenes are very funny ! __ So, it just goes to show!__

Lana Del Rey's real name is Elizabeth Grant. She was born on June 21st, 1986 in New York City. She is an American singer and a songwriter. Lana del rey_born to die

She did a first album entitled Kill Kill under the name Lizzy Grant in 2009 and a second in 2010 entitled Lana Del Rey. These two albums didn’t meet with success. So, in 2011, she decided to record a third album Born to Die, under the name Lana Del Rey. She had great success in autumn 2011 with the hit Video Games, which is known thanks to the Internet with the video she made herself. At the beginning of 2012, a second hit extracted from the same album was very successful too: Born to Die. A few days ago she released a new video in the same spirit as Video Games : Carmen. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6K8Uq88BEQ)

Lana del rey As for me, I love this artist. I enjoy her soul voice and her melodies which don’t leave your head. I think she will be a widely famous singer in a few years' time. Her lyrics affect me because they are profound like in the song Born to Die.

It was so easy for me to talk about NCIS, my favorite series, although my article only arrives now. I wondered what my only source of comfort was when I was bored... And the answer is NCIS ! This series features a team of special agents in charge of Criminal Investigation in the US Navy et US Marines Corps. It's not a simple detective series, it's a comedy, with an adventure in every episode where the characters have the most important role. Indeed, the series focuses on agent Gibb's team, composed of Tony Dinozzo, Ziva David, Timothe McGee, Donald (Ducky) Mallard, Jimmy Palmer, and at the top of the pyramid, Leon Vance, the director. I have watched it since its inception, so I am a sincere fan.

Like my brother Léonard, I play Warhammer 40.000, but I prefer painting figurines to the game itself. I enjoyed seeing the new entries in the latest Golden Demon (the best figurine painting competition in the world), so I want to show to you my favourite figurines. Watch and be amazed!

There are a lot of kinds of dance like classical dance, hip hop, modern jazz, rock, ballroom dancing…

Classical dance classic.png classic_2.png

You can practice classical dance but it’s very difficult because you must dance on points and do the splits.

Hip Hop hip_hop_1.png hip_hop_2.png

Hip Hop is a dance which appeared in the Black and Latino ghettos in the USA in the seventies. Hip Hop, which I practice, covers many specific styles: rap, breakdancing, DJing, and beat boxing for example.

Modern Jazz modern2.png

Modern Jazz is a new style of dance, many girls practice this dance because it’s very fashionable these days. As or me, I practice Modern dance but not jazz because I prefer more modern music.

Rock

rock_2.png

Acrobatic dancing is the most beautiful but the most dangerous dance in my opinion. The acrobatics are very difficult to carry out because the dancers risk hurting themselves. For me I practice jump rock, which is very physical but less dangerous.

Ballroom dancing

classic_1.png

Ballroom dancing is popular these days because it’s less fashionable. But I find it's beautiful too. This year, in my dancing school, my teacher taught us the Tango.

Edith Piaf was born December 19, 1915 in Paris; her real name was Edith Giovanna Gassion. She spent a difficult childhood because his mother, too poor to raise her, left her in the care of her maternal grandmother when she was very small. But when her father returned from the front, he put her in the care of her paternal grandmother, owner of a brothel. Piaf In 1922, her father got her to live the life of a small traveling circus artist and then a miserable street life as an artist. It is singing popular songs in the streets with her father that revealed Edith's talent and her exceptional voice In 1930 she left her father and sang a duet on the street with Simone Bertaut, who became her friend, the sister of her heart. In 1935, she was discovered in the street by Louis Leplee, manager of a cabaret who named her "the kid sparrow". Later discovered by composers such as Raymond, she was the source of many successful songs that have become classics of French repertoire: la Vie en Rose, Je ne Regrette Rien, l'Hymne à l'Amour, Milord, Mon Dieu, l'Accordéoniste, Mon Légionnaire.

In 1948, while she was on a triumphant tour in New York, she was experiencing the great love of her life with the French boxer from Casablanca, Marcel Cerdan, who became world champion in 1949, but he died in a plane crash. Devastated by mental suffering and acute polyarthritis, she sank slowly and took drugs like morphine. The end of her career was made difficult by serious health problems and she died a premature death at the age of 47 on October 10, 1963 in Grasse.

Edith Piaf was a French singer of music hall and variety. Considered the archetype of the French singer, she is almost fifty years after her death the most famous French interpreter, both in France and abroad. she has inspired many composers and was a mentor to many young artists of international fame.

I love this singer as she touched me with her life that was very hard and with her voice that was extraordinary. Even if I love all her songs , my favorite is "la vie en rose".

Stargate Sg-1 is an American series, created by Brad Wright. The main characters are Richard Dean Anderson (Jack O'neal), Amanda Tapping (Samantha Carter), Christopher Judge (Teal'c) and Michael Shanks (Daniel Jackson). This is one of my favourite series because it's very funny and there is a lot of action, and I like the story! The story is that the humans discovered a gate in Antarctic, which is a gate to travel through the universe, and during their first journey, they met the Goa'uld, a bad race! So the humans made the decision to use the gate to try and find allied races and different weapons, to help them to defeat the terrible Goa'ulds! The series is very exciting, sometimes sad but freaking funny, thanks to O'neal, who is my favourite actor! For example, when the humans are about to be killed or something, O'neal is still joking! In conclusion, if you guys haven't seen the series yet, you have to!

The Nightmare Before Christmas

The Nightmare before Christmas was directed by Henry Selick in 1993 (it came out in 1994 in France), written by Tim Burton and Disney studios, and has music composed by Danny Elfman. It was made using the stop-motion technique.

Jack Skellington was a very popular scarecrow in his town “Halloween”, where people nicknamed him “Pumpkin king”. Every year on Halloween, Jack and his fellows scared the world. Tired of this work Jack wandered into a forest and found randomly a door that led to “Christmas town.” The hero fell in love with this country, so he decided to organize the Christmas party, but he did not count on a disturbance caused by Oogie Boogie.

Through this gothic fairytale, Tim Burton speaks metaphorically of self-discovery and integration into society. mr jack

Do you know Warhammer 40 000?

Warhammer 40 000 is the most famous war-game in the world. It takes place 38 000 years beyond our times, in a galaxy (our galaxy), dominated by the Imperium of Humanity, the greatest human organization ever. This empire is directed by the Emperor-God, a dead rotting carcass seated on the Gold Throne who defends his subjects against the demons from the Warp, the immaterial kingdom. The Emperor has many enemies: alien species (like the Tau Empire, the Eldars or the Tyranids), Chaos troops, or renegades from his own armies. But he isn’t helpless: he controls the Imperial Guard, the biggest human army ever (millions and millions of men and machines), and the Space Marines Chapters (genetically improved and mechanically assisted soldiers).

Personally, I play Warhammer 40 000. I have a 2227 points (a measure created to balance battles) in the Space Marine’s army and a 768 points in Tyranid’s army.

And you? Do you play Warhammer 40 000?

Tuesday, March 13, 2012 Narimane and I went to the studio Mag in St Etienne; Mag Studio is a recording studio.

We went there to record our songs. Indeed since November, we have taken part in a creative song workshop. 17 students wrote a song each. At the beginning, we started looking for ideas, then a singer named Alexis HK came to our high school for two days, he's a friend of Renan Luce who came last year. Alexis HK came to improve our songs and find the melody. And to finalize our work have recorded it at the studio. We look forward to the results of the album. Narimane’s song speaks of her future life; it's an ironic interpretation of the future. My own song is about my personality with the metaphor of the seed. You can read the following extracts. studio mag Narimane’s song

« déjà trente c’est la galère;maman bobo, maman j’ai froid;trois enfants ça me désespère;pour aller mieux je prends un déca »

….

chorus : j’ai fait un rêve, une aventure;je basculais dans le futur;j’ai fait un rêve, j’ai vu venir;les contours de mon avenir

My song

« Moi, j’ai ce grain de folie;Ce grain de folie en tête ;Qui fait de moi ce que je suis Je suis loin d’être parfaite » …..

Chorus : j’suis pas de la mauvaise herbe;Un chardon sur le gazon;Je t’offre des fleurs superbes ;Et du bonheur à foison

Special dedication to Candice and Laurie « Moi j’ai ce grain de beauté;Il est en moi, il est caché;Désaxée, un peu coquine;Quand je fais ma Marilyn »

The artist 52 Awards and 47 nominations in festivals, a great reward to the director, Michel Hazanavicius! The Artist is THE movie of the moment. A silent black and white movie in the 21st century : An idea so old and so brillant! The rythm is created by the catchy music, but this movie is also very touching! Jean Dujardin is the masculine revelation of the year (One Frenchy, One!) and our French "Loulou" has reasons to be proud. Personaly, I really enjoyed The Artist because there is a historical aspect (the replacement of the silents movies by the talking movies) and a lovely romance. I know that it's not usual for teenagers to watch this kind of movie, but it's worth it. Enjoy!

Knowing-proyas-aff.jpg Predictions is a film directed by Alex Proyas in 2009 and starring the famous actor Nicolas Cage. This is story about John Koestler, a Statistician. One day, his son comes back from school after a ceremony concerning a Time capsule which was discovered and dug up. Inside it, there are a lot of messages, every child comes back home with one of them. So, Caleb, his son has a message. Contrary to other children, his message is illegible, it is a succession of numbers. John begins to decipher it. Progressively, we discover that these numbers predict the future and particularly tragic disasters. The message contains the precise dates, the numbers of people who will die and the location with numbers corresponding to longitude and latitude. John quickly becomes haunted by these tragedies and wants to watch each of them to verify the predictions. At the end of the paper, he sees two letters E. And he understands that it predicts the apocalypse, the end of the world. John engages in a race against time. I find this movie so exciting, I couldn’t stop watching it. It is very subtle and fascinating. Moreover, the characters are very mysterious and they are full of secrets. I only watched it once, and I can't wait to see it again. So, it just goes to show!

The Godfather is an american film from 1972 directed by Francis Ford Coppola. This film is based on a novel by Mario Puzo, which has the same title. It stars famous actors like Marlon Brando, Al Pacino and Robert Duvall. The story takes place in the 50's, and presents the experience of a Sicilian-American family: The Corleone's. At the beginning of the film, the crime family patriarch, Don Vito Corleone, hears requests for favors from several people like the singer Johny Fontane. The singer is desperate, because Jack Woltz, a film director, is refusing to cast him. So Don Corleone makes Woltz an offer which he can’t refuse: in the morning, Woltz finds the severed head of his prized racehorse in his bed, and he changes his mind. After that, the film relates the gang war in New York. Finally, Don Corleone gets killed with his first son, Sonny. So it is Vito's second son, Michele, who become the Boss. He takes his revenge on the other families, particularly the Barzini. At the end of the film, we can see Michele in a meeting with his capos, who kiss his hand and greet him as "Don Corleone". I love this film because this is one of the first films about the Mafia. It is an old film, but its has good special effects. And this is not a film with many fighting scenes, but you understand the violence of all the characters, who don’t hesitate to kill old friends. For exemple, Michele kills his brother-in-law, who beats his wife. I love when the Tattaglias send the Corleones fish wrapped in Luca Brasi's bulletproof vest: Sonny says: “what is it?” and Peter Clemenza answers: “This is a Sicilian message. It means Luca Brazi is sleeping with the fishes”.

Peter Hernandez was born on 8th october 1986 in Honulu ( Hawaï ) . This name is unknown, but nevertheless, a lot of people know the person behind this name. Everyone has are already heard his name or his songs, because it's a famous singer. He is known under the pseudonym Bruno Mars. He's famous for his style blending Rnb, American pop, and hip hop. He begun producing other artists with the production team The Smeenzingstons. Later, he became famous thanks to his duets with B.O.B with the song "Nothin' On you" and then, with Travy Mc Coy with the song " Billionaire.". These two duets made Bruno Mars known with his melodic and pleasant voice. In 2010, the public discovered his first album " Doo-Woops and Hooligans ".Quickly, he bewitched the public with "Just the way you are" in 19th july 2010. Since this spectacular world success, he has continued to create wonderful songs, as successful as "Grenade" in september, "lazy song" "Marry You", "It will rain".. With this last song, he was chosen for the sound track of the famous saga "Twilight", in the last part ; Twilight IV : Revelation. As for his awards, he was nominated six times for the 54th Grammy Awards in 4 categories : Best pop singer, recording of the year, best song of the year with "Grenade" and album of the year for his first album. So, these awards confirm his quick success.

As for me, Bruno Mars is one of my favorite singers, I find in his melodies extremely beautiful. His voice resounds within my head like nursery rhymes, easy to memorize. It bewitches my mind and sometimes, I hum his songs. I find these songs magical, I love them.

I’ve another geeky article to compare with the previous one. Of course I'm talking of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3. Honestly, I have to say that it’s quite interesting. The campaign mode is relatively good but graphics could be really better. Now, lets address the question of Multiplayer: I still say that Battlefield 3 is top notch. I think Modern Warfare’s system is really too easy: you just have to kill enemies to get a bonus which will kill others. It’s not at all realistic, and the level of difficulty is disappointing. But I have to say that Call of Duty is Call of Duty, inimitable! I like to spend time online, it’s still fun. After these few words, I'll let you express yourselves, guys ;) .call-of-duty-modern-warfare-3.jpg

Imaginaerum.jpgImaginaerum is the 7th album of Nightwish, a Finnish symphonic metal band. This album was issued on the 5 December 2011 in France, and it ranked 33rd in album sales in France and 1 in Finland. This album tells the story of an old man who lives In his dreams. Under the appearance of a child, he travels in a world which mixes his memory and an imaginary landscape of his invention. Nightwish continuously mixes the styles: on this album you hear symphonic metal songs, others which are mostly folk, some a little jazzy and others are clearly inspired by the world of Tim Burton. Anette et Tuomas

The group does not lose its theatricality, creating yet a new universe without losing its soul. I thinks the group is better now thanks to the voice of the new singer Anette Olzon. She took over from the former singer Tarje Turunen, in the previous album Dark Passion Play . It was not too bad, but the songs hadn't been written for her voice, which almost made me regret Tarja's voice. But their latest album really sets off Anette's stellar voice. I love this iconic group so I'm going to see them in concert in April!! =)

The other day, I saw the movie « Setup » also called in French “Braqueurs”. Set Up is a film directed by Mike Gunther. It stars Bruce Willis, Ryan Phillippe, and 50 Cent. The story takes place in Detroit where three friends, Sonny (50 Cent), Jack Biggs (Bruce Willis) and Vincent (Ryan Phillippe), plan out a heist. But their plans turn deadly when Vincent betrays his accomplices: he shoots Sonny and Dave (who dies immediately). Sonny survives and wants revenge, so attempts to retrieve the money with the help of the most dangerous mob boss in Detroit: Jack Biggs (Bruce Willis)... I'll let you watch this movie to see how Sonny takes his revenge. Personally I like this film. I think that 50 Cent is a good actor and whereas the topic is quite serious, they are some funny moments. I advise you to watch it quickly and enjoy ;). setup.jpg
